I have been a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) since March 2005. With my colleagues, I set up and started the fastest growing PCI programme in the UK. The cardiology department at RBH is the largest non-surgical PCI centre in the UK and the 7th largest PCI centre in the UK. We are also the Heart Attack Centre for Dorset performing 24/7 Primary PCI for the surrounding one million population. The development of the Dorset Heart Centre PCI service was instrumental in winning the Hospital Doctor Cardiac team of the year 2006. I have performed over 3500 PCI cases as the first operator, which includes a large number of complex cases. I have a wide experience of vein graft and left main stem PCI and have also performed many bifurcation procedures using a variety of different techniques.
I have been involved in a number of interventional clinical trials, recruiting the patients and gaining their consent, and performing the intervention. At the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, we have taken part in a number of PCI studies and registries. I was the local principal investigator in the BCIS 1 study, a high-risk PCI balloon pump study. I was also a local principal investigator in two other studies, APTOR and CURRENT/ OASIS 7 on acute coronary syndromes. I was involved in co-coordinating the transmission of live cases for the Paris Course of Revascularization from Southampton in May 2004. I presented cases at “Angio Review” sessions at Advanced Angioplasty 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2012. I was invited as a podium speaker at Advanced Angioplasty 2007 on “Contemporary Trials”. I was invited to sit on a specialist panel at Advance Cardiovascular Interventions in 2014, 2015 and 2016. I have been involved in and completed the training of one of my cardiology colleagues in PCI. More recently we have secured funding for five interventional fellows at Bournemouth and run an excellent training programme.
